CM1 - CM2 FLAM
The last two years are dedicated to enhancing knowledge in French. Children are very good readers who have been exposed already to a large variety of texts. They feel comfortable enough to write long texts in French.
Previous achievements will be revised. The programme allows to fill the gaps and to consolidate achievements. Children will finally learn the subjunctive and the preterite tenses, the last two most difficult parts in French conjugation.
FIRST YEAR
The student will deepen the knowledge acquired during the two previous years and extend learning.
PREREQUISITES
- Excellent knowledge of oral French.
- Know tenses: present, compound past, future, imperfect, conditional, pluperfect.
- Grammatical knowledge: subjects, verbs, adverbs, complements, direct and indirect objects, nominal groups and adjectives.
- Excellent command of reading.
- Correct spelling (end of level CE2).
- Able to speak critically about a subject and able to argue orally and in writing.
OBJECTIVES
- Main objective: Very good command of oral French language and excellent reading.
- Conjugation :
- Revision of tenses: present, future, imperfect, pluperfect, conditional, preterite.
- Learning: present and past conditional; present imperative, present and past infinitive; present and past participles.
- Possible initiation to the subjunctive at the end of the year.
- Grammar :
- Revision of grammatical knowledge: subjects, verbs, adverbs, complements, direct and indirect objects, nominal groups, adjectives and homonyms.
- Identifying parts of the nominal groups and their functions: determiners, epithet adjective, genitive, possessive case.
- Correct spelling (level of end of CM1) and the use of rules in the following cases:
- In the nominal group, agreement in gender and number between determinant, name and adjective;
- Agreement in number and person between subject and verb;
- Agreement between the subject and the past participle (not including reflexive verbs).

SECOND YEAR
In this second year, priority is given to written expression techniques.
PREREQUISITES
- A very good command of oral French.
- Knowledge of the following tenses: present, past-compound, future, imperfect, conditional, preterite.
- Solid grammatical knowledge: subjects, verbs, adverbs, complements, direct and indirect objects, nominal groups, adjectives and homonyms.
- Excellent command of reading.
- Correct spelling (level of end of CM1).
- An ability to speak critically about a subject and to argue orally and in writing.
OBJECTIVES
- Main objective: to strengthen all the achievements of primary and elementary curriculum.
- Oral: Use a appropriate vocabulary, adapt oral expression according to interlocutors and objectives.
- Reading: comprehension and text analysis.
- Writing :
- Writing various types of texts and using present, past and future tenses.
- Improving your spelling.
- Conjugation: revision of all tenses and moods previously seen and consolidation of the subjunctive tense.
- Reading novels and knowledge of the characteristics of the narration.
- Deepening of grammar:
- know and identify grammatical homonyms, synonyms, antonyms.
- know participles
- know the circumstantial complements, qualitative, comparative and superlative adjectives.
NB: This course follows the CM2 programme established by the French National Education. Therefore, it does not prepare directly to GCSE English.
